How is the increasing use of social media as a news source affecting journalism?

As, every coin has two sides, Social Media & Multimedia Journalism also come with many pros and cons.

As a news source, Social Media allows journalists to publish stories using different types of features and elements. Social Media has brought World’s news at one place. But digital media is also affecting Journalism in a bad way.

If a news is published on social media and the source is unknown we cannot tell it is a genuine information or rumor. Because rumors spread So Fast on Facebook that sometimes people call it Fakebook and not, Facebook.

According to Authors JEFFREY GOTTFRIED and ELISA SHEARER  62 percent of US adults get news on social media, and during 2016 US Presidential Elections the most popular fake news stories were more widely shared on Facebook than the most popular mainstream news stories.

Fake News expert Craig Silverman also tells, “the most discussed fake news stories tended to favor Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton”. And has suggested that “Donald Trump would not have been elected president were it not for the influence of fake news.”
