For my video project, I have made the video on the topic, “In what ways are romantic and/or sexual relationships constructed within the virtual world” especially focusing on On-line dating which includes Love, truth, lies and cheating.
At the beginning stage I thought to make the video on Gamification topic. But when I started research on this topic, I found that this issue does not fascinates me. Then, the video’s topic was changed from gamification to online dating.
But making a video on the issue of “In what ways are romantic and/or sexual relationships constructed within the virtual world” was also not an easy task. The most difficult part of this task was scripting. Writing the script for this topic took most of the time. Because the footage, shoot or video should be able to conveyed our script’s message. Thinking about the shots for the video, the script about online dating was written. Moreover, it was necessary to relate and include some scholarly articles’ in the video. Therefore, a plenty of articles were accessed and finally, I made use of seven different scholarly literature, newspaper articles and research journals in the script and video.
Furthermore, it was my topic’s need to include some other people in the video. But it was very hard to ask friends for their help because everyone was busy in assignments and some people did not agree to face the camera. Therefore, I just used one or two people in my video and I tried not to capture their faces so that no one can identify them. That is why in most of scenes my appearance was projected.
For my Sync shots where I was talking to camera, I chose a vibrant and a colourful location and background. So, that the video will attract the viewers. And, I began my video with the same shot.
In the video, I tried to put Drama, Fun and real life elements by shooting some scenes about the consequences of online dating. These scenes, I did not want to shoot in any glamorous locations because I wanted to make them more realistic.
After scripting and shooting, voice over was done. Difficult part about voice over was to find a completely silent location or place. In the Deakin University itself I tried to do voice over in different buildings and departments but there was one or another kind of noise coming in the background. Finally, late in the night when there were less people around this Voice over was done.
When Shots and voice over were in the basket, then the only task left was editing. For the video editing, I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018. In the editing, music was also inserted according to the need of the script. Music was download from Creative Commons’ database.
One more difficult aspect of this task was managing time. Time played a big role in shaping my video project. It was very hard to completely focus on this project because of other assignments, work commitments and health issues. Because of all these factors, this video project for unit ALC 708 was submitted few hours late. If I would have been able to manage time, I could have film some more necessary shots, which would have made my video more professional and good. From this experience, I learnt that, a video project can take more time than you think. Therefore, it’s always good, to start early.
And here is my video about “Online Dating- Love, Lies & Cheating”
